Sometimes as a parent you need a break from your kids, and especially on an icy winter night in February, you might be running out of ideas of fun things to do, either with a friend for mom's night out or with your kids on a cold and dreary Saturday. One option is the Indiana Art Fair at the State Museum downtown, which extends through tomorrow (Saturday, February 13th). They held a special preview night this evening, called Galentine's Art Night, which has to win the award for the cutest name I've ever heard for an art show or museum event. There were appetizers, desserts, wine, craft beer and cider, along with handmade artisan goods and fine art from the 60 Hoosier artists who will also be at the fair Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. As part of Galentine's Art Night, we got to participate in a "wine and canvas" event, where we taped and painted a design on our canvases. To finish the project later, after the paint is dry, we will add the outline of the state of Indiana on top of the fun colorful background.
The high temperature tomorrow (Saturday 2/13/16) is supposed to be 17 degrees. You might need a warm place to go, where your kids can run around and have fun looking at the exhibits (FYI - I'd say they need to be in first grade or older to enjoy this museum) and you can see and support interesting, unique, local art and artisans. Two fun things for the price of one -- a museum and an art show. Saturday dilemma, solved. :)
